Euroregion Elbe/Labe

GDR museum Pirna

Enjoy a journey through the history of the German Democratic Republic (GDR).

On an area of 2,000 sqm and with approx. 120,000 exhibits, this permanent exhibition provides insights into the life of the people in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) up to the year 1989. With a variety of exhibits, it was possible to recreate, for example, a consumption, a kindergarten, a classroom and a sick bay. Various motor vehicles from bygone times are also available for viewing. The old Dresden children's tram "Lottchen" is located on the outdoor area.

The GDR Museum is located in a building that is over 140 years old and was used continuously as barracks until 1990. In 2005 the privately run GDR Museum opened.

A tour takes about 1.5 h. On the website you can take a virtual tour through the museum.
