"My only communication with you and our world" were for Václav Havel the letters he wrote to his wife Olga from prison. By the time he wrote these lines in August 1980, the playwright, civil rights activist and future president had been in prison for more than a year, with three more to follow. A fate that he shared with many other dissidents during the communist regime.
