In the country castle Pirna-Zuschendorf you can admire camellias, azaleas, hydrangeas and rhododendrons on over 6 hectares of land (1800 m² of which are in the glass house).
The treasure of Zuschendorf, the collection of camellias, as well as the azaleas, hydrangeas and rhododendrons belong to the "Saxon Moorland Cultures". They are native to East Asia. These plants were introduced and made famous by numerous botanists. Already very early on these plants were collected and propagated in European palace gardens. At first these foreign plants were collected as rarities of the palace gardens, later own cultivations developed in Europe and Saxony.
Today the valuable historical variety collections are preserved as genetic protection collections in Zuschendorf. The various plant collections are presented to the public in the entire park as well as in over 1800 square metres of glasshouse space. Our collections of camellias, azaleas and rhododendrons are under monumental protection.
