Hohnstein castle

Only remaining castle in Saxon Switzerland right of river Elbe

The castle, throning on a sandstone rock 140 m above the Polenztal valley, is the landmark of the town of Hohnstein. It was first mentioned in a document in 1353 and has had a eventful history.

The museum shows the history of the castle and the town, in another exhibition the life of bats and salmon is shown. The observation tower offers a wide view over the sandstone rocks.
