The Dresden funicular, which opened in 1895 and belongs to the Dresdentransport company, runs from Loschwitz to the higher district of Weißer Hirsch. The original plan was to simply create a connection between the city center and the newly founded Weißer Hirsch villa district. After this district developed into a popular and well-known health resort with the construction of the Lahmann Sanatorium, it was used many times.
The two cars of the funicular on the route are connected to each other by a pull rope and are powered by a stationary conveyor. The journey leads through two tunnels and over a 102 meter long viaduct and lasts five minutes, during which you can learn interesting information about the funicular via a loudspeaker. Currently on the funicular works the fourth vehicle generation from 1994.
While the cable car itself and a ride on it are a special experience, you can also enjoy a wonderful view over the Elbe valley from the Louisenhof restaurant right next to the mountain station. The funicular has been a listed building since 1984.
