Arboretum Kunratice is the northernmost arboretum in the Czech Republic and has an area of 4.2 ha. It was founded in 1958 for the needs of the forestry school in Šluknov, since the need for an arboretum for revealed the lesson.
The collection presents various types of native and introduced tree species. Today there are about 2100 of them, with the collection of firs and pines being the most important. In addition, the most common species are spruce, cypress, Zerav, juniper, maple, linden, willow and poplar. The age of the oldest trees usually does not exceed 40 years.
The arboretum extends on the plain and over a slope at an altitude of 339-346 m. There are several springs on its premises, which lead to a pond. The climate corresponds to that of a cool foothill region. In the lower part of the arboretum, the snow stays until March or April. Research is primarily carried out into which tree species grow under harsh climatic conditions and in a zone of immission damage. They provide an opportunity to obtain important information that could be used in forestry practice. In 1999 an additional shrub arboretum was established.
The arboretum consists of two parts, the first is located in the youth hostel on Sukova Street, and the second in the village of Kunratice south of Šluknov. It is cumbersome that you have to register visits about 14 days in advance.
