Heritage village Brocno

Beautiful village, which is largely under heritage protection

Almost the entire village has been listed as an ensemble since 1995 as a special example of regional folk architecture.

Brocno is first mentioned in a document in 1357, when it was sold to the then very young Charles University in Prague. The fortress on the edge of the village was built in 1452 and later rebuilt into a castle in Renaissance style. From 1970 to 1990 the castle was used by the paper mill in Štětí. After that it was sold and dilapidated.

Around the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century many Jews lived in Brocno. In the summer their number increased significantly due to visits of relatives and acquaintances from Prague. The small chapel in the middle of the village square was used by them at that time for religious purposes.
