The Barbora dam is one of the remnants of the numerous opencast mines in the northern Bohemian Ore Mountains foothills. Many of these opencast mines were flooded after they were closed in the 1970s. About five kilometers west of Teplice, where the mine of the same name was once located, today lies the artificial reservoir, which attracts numerous visitors during the summer season for swimming and water sports such as windsurfing and yachting. The restaurants in the area provide the necessary food. The lake is known for good water quality with high clarity.
