Little is known about the early years of the Botanical Garden in Teplice. According to historical plans, towards the end of the 19th century there was a city nursery. The earliest building plans date from 1904.
Only at the beginning of the 1970s were the old greenhouses, which until then had served the spa facilities as a winter home for sensitive plants and for growing cut flowers, restored. The botanical garden reconstructed in this way was opened in March 1975.
The area of the botanical garden with the open spaces and four greenhouses now covers around two hectares. A special feature are plants from Chile, which were collected during several expeditions to this region. With almost 600 plant species from Chile, this is the largest collection of this species in Europe. In 2021, a new mountain plant greenhouse was opened, showcasing plant species from mountain areas in Europe, Asia, North and South America and New Zealand. The garden now has a tropical, a subtropical, a succulent and a rockery perennial greenhouse. An information system explains ecological, environmental and nature conservation issues
