Jílové Renaissance Castle

Renaissance castle with exhibitions on the noble family of Bünau and on mining in the region

The castle owes its outward appearance primarily to two aristocratic families: beginning in 1527 the Knights of Bünau, and from 1629 to 1945 the Thun-Hohenstein family, which in 1928-30 had the original Renaissance castle converted to serve as its chief residence. The castle was opened to the public in 2005. A tour of the complex provides access to Renaissance-period rooms and cellar vaults as well as the private chambers of the one-time owners. The following exhibitions are also on view "Fluorite on Sněžník (Schneeberg)" on mining in the region, "The Knights of Bünau" on a family that owned the castle for more than a hundred years, and a municipal history exhibition entitled "Commemorative Stones in Jílové".
